![]() It's also a very interesting album in that the songs come from many different sources. Kill 'Em All is one of the first examples of a pure thrash metal album (some say the first, but of course there's endless debates over that). Kill and KIMB greatly resemble NWOBHM more than any of the later albums.Īlso, just to be clear, I don't like bands that do a lot of downtuning, so, that really doesn't have much to do with it. And later on, Dave started doing more atmospheric, and nuanced musical things. Every song isn't a fast, nonstop in your face speed assault, like on Kill. Songs with mood and settings, like Ktulu or Battery. Later albums still had speed, of course, but a lot of the songs post Kill em All- have breathing room-slower parts, riffs that have huge, big hanging chords like Thing or Sanitarium. And it's definitely the fastest paced album of all. ![]() I'm not saying they can't be both, I'm saying that the number 1 thing that makes a thrash album is the reliance on speed and that's the big standout on Kill Em All versus their other albums, the songs are overall, the fastest songs on the library. It's heavy as fuck, and one of the best songs, but it's not a thrash song. But a song like The Thing That Should Not Be. So my question is, does anyone else with more knowledge and experience of Metallica and Metal in general perhaps know why I like Kill Em All but not necessarily their aggressive tracks off later albums and where I can find similar music, either from Metallica or other bands? A lot of the time, it's not too different to punk. I know it's loud and it's fast, but it puts me in a great mood and just feels less sinister than their other songs with similar vibes, something which I think has to do with the fact that it's more guitar-focussed and less drum-heavy. ![]() I recently started listening to Kill Em All, something I've been putting off for a while as I'm not the biggest fan of Metallica's ultra-aggressive songs such as Fight Fire With Fire or the second part of One.Īnyway, I really enjoyed it and have to say it's probably my favourite album of theirs so far- it may not be the album with the best songs, but it works as a whole unlike, for example, RTL, which is a grouping of incredible tracks but is just not the most coherent album imo.
