It is underpowered for more than 2 people but that is why they offered larger boats with larger engines. That is what the boat was designed for and would give the correct balance of power and safety. I think you would be making a big mistake installing anything other than a "B". While this idea may sound horrible, I think if you did it the boat would sound even worse.Ĥ) Get a dog for the back seat, they don't need leg room. If you are handy and creative, you could use the powerhead from an outboard with some sort of gear reduction and a creative down draft carb solution, or go with a direct injection model. If you are willing to be flexible on making the K fit while also returning the rear seat to it proper size, I can offer the following.ģ) Put in a "modern" V6 or V4 that will produce more hp with less space and weight than a K. It has got to be easier than roping a calf from a moving horse right? Learn to lasso and you can shut off and rope a post or cleat when you need to dock. Reverse and nuetral are over rated, plus you get a weight savings. It may sound crazy and it is, but that happens to be what Chris Craft did to solve the same problem.Ģ) Ditch the transmission and you gain most of the room you need. In his years of ownership, he tried a couple larger engines in it and fastened make shift trim tabs on the hull prior to installing a layer of fiberglass from the waterline down so that this boat could pull skiers. The prior owner owned this boat since 1973 and he recently passed away at age 92. You don't happen to have an "extra" extra spare model B do you? In the end, I'm sure I'd be much happier with a more roomy interior than bragging rights of having the larger engine. Installing the correct sized engine back in the original position as well as shedding about 200lbs in the process makes the most sense. I simply don't want to feel completely underpowered. I am keeping in mind that this is a 75 year old boat and I'm not looking to go "hot dogging" around (that's what my other boat is for). To be honest, with the KS engine not being able to be moved back, I've been a bit concerned if I'd be happy with the performance and sound of the "B".
